Antakya, the ancient Antiocheia, is 25 km from the sea in the province of Hatay. It was built on the banks of the river Asi Nehri. The city is divided into two parts: on the East bank of the river is the old town with Arab-Ottoman buildings and streets and the new town with tall, modern buildings is on the other side of the river.
