Because Of Habitat Destruction. Turkey has a rich butterfly species composition. There are 105 butterfly species around the city of Samsun, mainly around Akdag. As a result of destruction of their habitat, their number in populations has been decreasing and their generations is under the fear of extinction. Among 50 butterfly species recorded in European Red Data Book from Turkey, 15 are living around Akdag. There is an urgent action policy to save generations of such butterflies.
