After shredding the world´s most devalued money in 2005 by dropping six zeros, Turkey is to complete the currency carving by dropping new from its name and reverting to Turkish Lira.

The new currency will start circulating Jan. 1, 2009, with the name Turkish Lira.´ The term New Turkish Lira´ was only a tool for the first part of the transition period, said Durmuş Yılmaz, governor of the Turkish Central Bank, during yesterday´s launch of the advertising campaign for the currency name transition.

I noticed it more in the East where the prices in the shops,on menus and market stalls are still written with all the noughts.

It must be confusing for people who didn´t visit Turkey for the first time until after 2005 when it changed. They must wonder what the heck is going on when they´re asked for 1 million lira for a tea!
